Acid Reflux Diet
Proper diet for an Acid Reflux patient is the best of all solutions for overcoming the problems. In selecting the proper diets, one must weigh out various options and look into the pros and cons of the beneficial or adverse effect of some important food items to have a better insight in the matter:
- Milk: A very common food item normally taken by many before going to bed in the night. In many cases, it ends up causing acidity or acid reflux during sleep. One must understand the problem starts from eating excess food in dinner time. Eating too much food causes excess acid production in the stomach. Ideally milk intake should have been a easy solution to tackle the acid reflux. Unfortunately, the milk has a rebound action and may rather encourage further acid secretion from stomach. To solve the problem , one must reorient the food by eating small diet meal at dinner time and a snack before sleep.
- Myths about certain food items are very much in circulation when people used to be advised about the items like coffee, spicy food and citrus fruits, to be avoided which otherwise will aggravate acid reflux. Recent studies have revealed that all these myths are not true. Researchers have found two aspects of behavioral changes can reduce the acid reflux . They are: eating less and keep your head little elevated while sleeping.
- While on the subject of Acid Reflux diet, one must remember as a general rule , eat small frequent meals instead of three or four large quantity meals a day. Each time one takes a small amount of food, small quantity of acid will be secreted to digest the same and there will be hardly any workload on the stomach.
- Food should comprise high carbohydrates. Items like rice, breads, pasta tie up excess acid in the stomach. No high fat fast food to be taken. Avoid alcohol. Maintain upright position after eating, for at least 45 minutes.
- Beverages like beer intake increases acid secretions in the stomach many time more and should be avoided.
